Publisher, and Rockstar Games owner, Take Two Interactive has teased a major new sequel, but is it Borderlands 3 or not?
Most gamers may not have been too bothered about Red Dead Redemption 2’s delay, since it likely ensures the game’s high quality, but it had a serve effect on Rockstar owner Take Two Interactive’s share price.
Especially as they had to admit to investors that they currently have ‘an unusually light release slate’, as a result of the delay.
But in their financial results they do make a reference to ‘a highly anticipated new title from one of 2K’s biggest franchises’ helping to buoy up next year’s results (next financial year that is, so sometime after April 2018).
They offered no clue as to what this franchise is, although the wording implies it’s not anything to do with Rockstar or a 2K sports title.
The obvious guess is that it’s Borderlands 3, although technically that’s a Gearbox game and 2K are just the publisher. Although they’re unlikely to make that distinction when talking to investors.
The other likely candidate is a new BioShock game, which 2K have been hinting about for years but never seem to have got around to. Not least because they closed down the original developer.
