Witcher developer CD Projekt Red announced that a public beta for its upcoming standalone Gwent game will begin on May 24th for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
The developer gave players a preview of what they can expect from the open beta in a livestream. (You can check it out here) They showed off decks and premium cards—beautifully animated versions of regular cards—from all five factions and went into some detail on how the standalone game differs from the mini-game from Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, especially when it comes to things like weather cards and card effects.
Progress from the closed beta will be reset to level the playing field for new players starting with the public beta, but CD Projekt Red hasn’t forgotten about its loyal testers. If you bought card kegs (basically, card packs), you will be refunded the amount you spent in actual money, and you will be awarded additional cards and avatars just for participating.
Like most other card games, Gwent will be free-to-play and will be supported by in-game purchases.
